Monday 16th March. Louise Bourgeios exhibition.

“Everyday you have to abandon your past, or accept it. And then if you cannot accept it, you become a sculptor“ Louise Bourgeois

Visiting ‘Structures of Existence: The Cells’ exhibition by Louise Bourgeois at Haus de Kunst was a wonderful experience and left me a little emotional.  This work is quite large and in some instances you can walk inside the cells. Much of the time the viewer is peering inlike a voyeur. Some cells are made of doors with windows or spaces where you can look in.

These installations feel as though they are filled with memories and when you peer or walk in you seem to be inside another persons dream or subconscious. Her work was a way of dealing with past traumas. I enjoy the storytelling in her work and that the viewer can investigate meaning in many of her cells. Having the audio was invaluable and gave me a great deal of insight into her work, her as a person and as an artist.
I am in awe of her. In awe of her ability to create such large pieces of work and to be able to outlet her pain in this way.
