David talked about an idea of trying to find the right material to make the peice instead of responding to the material it self. However, in this particular work, it makes me wonder if the idea of making the lip is coming first or it is coming after he found and played around with the material (rubber). Moreover, the way he make the brooche for this particular work piece seem responding to the material ( if you got the chance to see the back of it - the way the brooch attach is responding to the flexibility of rubber).
