Monday 16th March
Today we visited the exhibition of Louise Bourgeois.
She was a legendary sculptor who created very early installations, which she would name as cells. They would reflect her own experiences, namely the biggest impacts on her life - her mother, father, depression, loneliness, and the fear of abandonment.
She captured her experiences very well in her work, and they echo with emotion. It seems as if her pieces are her internal struggles put into physical reality. It is quite a stark, near surrealist show.
I found it quite captivating, with her work being quite 'visceral', so to speak. It does seem like she was quite self-absorbed, however, as none of her work - at least mainly at the exhibition - seemed to showcase anything beyond those few areas.
