Pavel Opočensky

Pavel Opočensky

What a character. A deviant. A good laugh and a welcoming artist happy to share anything you want to know about his work.
He says he makes most of his money from sculpture, mostly large boulders of granite he carves circles out of, so each different way you look at it you see the light through it differently. experientally, it sounds exciting. But I was there to see his brooches.

Made out of a snowboard he found on a rubbish heap, originally they were covered in skull and crossbones. He said he wanted to give them a new life so he carved them into sexual organs, beautifully and thoughtfully using both sides as to show light from one side to the other, constantly changing how they appear depending on whether they are worn on the body or sitting on a bench where light can reach all the way through. In keeping with this mentality that both sides are important, he also created his own brooch pin that can be detached and swapped depending on which side the wearer wants to face out. Clever fun man.
