A gate greeted us and the moment we were pass darkness was only kept out by sparse traces of light. When we were in the cave, helmets were compulsory not because the rocks were gonna fall on top of us, but to protect us from bumping our heads.
Here and there lied some plant life living on the water dripping from on high. A pond sitting deep inside the cave created a landscape vivified with water!
We were led by our audio guide to find gemstones protruding from the walls hidden from untrained eyes. There was a rock that looked like raw meat. Quartz, amethyst and stone of many other colours found their way to our eyes, so we became witnesses to observe them firsthand and not just from books and internet!
Extreme care was required while excavating to minimise damage to the original stones. The miner would usually follow the spray of molten rock to determine the pattern and locate stone intellectually. Export was good so the miners would get a good return for their hard work. However, it might have taken years to find the rocks which meant futile attempts and their labour unwarranted.
