Real life vs. photographs

Lucy Sarneel's bench
Over the course of the trip I've viewed work which we'd only seen photographs of. Yesterday while visiting Lucy Sarneel she started discussing the difference between seeing things in real life vs. photographs of them. She talked of experiencing the unexpected scale, the way it sits on the body and the back of the work all being the benefits of seeing it in the flesh. Something that has shifted for me is that I'd seen photographs of the work online, which sits in the virtual and therefore sat in a fantasy land that didn't really exist. It's been fantastic to experience this and have the realisation of what is attainable and can exist in the real world.
